A little about Safer Foundation. . .
This organization has been around for many years. Founded on the premise that through education, employment, and positive community involvement, recidivism (being returned to incarceration) will be reduced and save communities a boatload of money! through many many studies and endless data analysis, Safer Foundation, its supporters, and detractors have found that guys and gals who secure academic and/or career education and are prepared to enter or re-enter the job market are much less likely to violate the terms of their post-incarceration supervision or commit new offenses.
Safer Foundation accomplishes the above objectives by offering individuals with criminal convictions opportunities to participate in in educational classes, assist with career and technical programs, offer employment services (job readiness training, employment placement, supportive services, and others).
When a program participant is placed in a job, Safer Foundation’s job has just begun. Through a series of follow up visits with the program participants and employers, the agency staff provides a sounding board for both to identify successes and failures in the workplace. With this information in hand, adjustments may be made to ensure a successful and long-term employment experience. Long-term employment benefits the program participant by helping to lay a solid employment history foundation as well as provides the opportunity for advancement in the company they work for. Employers benefit from long-term employees placed by Safer Foundation as turnover or churn is costly to an employer.
In addition to the above, there are no costs to the employer for Safer Foundation’s services. Finally, our communities benefit in several ways too! First, the financial savings is incredible – think of it this way, if Joey Smith is revoked from his probation or parole and returned to custody it cost tens of thousands of dollars a year to house, feed, clothe, provide medical, dental, and vision treatment, and incidental expenses the community and state taxes are funding. Compare that with keeping Joey in the community with stable employment which results in him paying taxes, shopping in the community, paying rent in the community, and going out to dinner and going out to dinner in the community – Hey actually pumping money into the community instead of draining it with zero return!
Do you or someone you know have a criminal conviction and live in the Illinois Quad Cities or Chicago? If so, get a hold of them and help ensure a positive future for yourself and do your part to build stronger communities! Safer Foundation has been at this for over 50 years, they know a little about what they are doing!
