An Epic Burger King and Walmart+ Delivery Fail: A Ruined Night qI’ll Never Forget
This weekend was supposed to be one of joy and cherished memories. My grandson, whom I only get to see on rare occasions, is leaving until July 2025. To make his last weekend with me special, I planned a “guys-only” dinner from Burger King followed by a movie night watching Kung Fu Panda 4. But instead of the fun and bonding we were looking forward to, we were met with frustration, disappointment, and heartbreak.
What happened with our order was not just a minor mistake—it was a cascade of corporate failures, from a botched delivery to poor customer service and unfulfilled promises. Burger King and Walmart+ didn’t just ruin a meal; they ruined a special moment I had planned for a couple of weeks.
What I Ordered vs. What I Received: A Total Failure
I placed my order through the Burger King app with clear instructions. As a loyal customer and a Walmart+ member, I trusted both companies to deliver the quality and service they advertise.
Here’s What I Ordered:
- Whopper Meal (Large):
- Requested modifications: extra onion, extra lettuce, and extra pickles.
- Drink: Coke (large).
- Side: large fries.
- Whopper Junior with Cheese: Redeemed with BK Crowns (rewards points).
- Medium Vanilla Iced Coffee.
- Condiments: Ketchup (x3), mayo (x2), mustard (x3).
- Donation: I even added a donation to the Burger King Foundation, believing I was contributing to a worthy cause.
- Walmart+ Benefits:
- As a Walmart+ member, I was eligible for a 25% discount on the order.
- I also qualified for a free Whopper, as advertised through their partnership with Burger King.
Here’s What Actually Arrived:
- A Whopper missing nearly everything I requested:
- No extra onion, no pickles at all, and tomatoes left on despite my request to remove them.
- No cheese and no mayo—essentially, it was the opposite of what I ordered.
- No Whopper Junior: The item redeemed with my hard-earned rewards points was not included.
- No Fries: The large fries that were part of the Whopper meal never arrived.
- No Coke Drink: Instead of a complete meal, I received a sad excuse for one.
- No Discounts or Free Whopper: Neither the promised Walmart+ discount nor the free Whopper promotion was applied.
This level of negligence isn’t acceptable for any company, let alone two major brands that promote convenience, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Corporate Failures: Adding Insult to Injury
The problems didn’t stop at the botched delivery. When I received a text message from Walmart+ thanking me for my order, I was baffled. At no point during the ordering process was I informed that Burger King was outsourcing delivery through Walmart+. This lack of transparency only added to my frustration when I sought resolution.
When I called the Burger King restaurant at 229 West Kimberly Road, Davenport, Iowa 52806, I was told I needed to contact customer service through the appsince that is where the order waas placed. Dutifully, I reached out and received an email from Jessica (support@burgerking.zendesk.com, Zendesk No. 17410852). She asked me to “provide a photo of the affected items.”
How do you photograph items that were never delivered? This response felt dismissive and robotic, showing no genuine concern for my ruined evening or my grandson’s disappointment. It was as if the system wasn’t designed to handle real human concerns—just scripted replies to deflect accountability.
Adding to the insult, the customer service response ignored the financial aspect. The missing discounts and promotions amounted to a significant portion of the order, yet no acknowledgment of these failures was made.
The Emotional Impact: A Night We Can’t Get Back
The food wasn’t just an order; it was a key part of a memory I was trying to create with my grandson. This weekend was meant to be about laughter, bonding, and quality time. Instead, my grandson and I were left sitting at the table, staring at the pitiful remains of what should have been a complete, satisfying meal.
My grandson was visibly upset when he realized the food wasn’t what we’d ordered, and there wasn’t even enough for both of us to eat. It broke my heart to see his disappointment, knowing this was one of our last opportunities to enjoy each other’s company before he leaves for nearly a year.
What’s even more frustrating is that this isn’t something we can redo. Moments like this are fleeting, and Burger King and Walmart+ robbed us of this one.
What Needs to Happen: Make This Right
- Full Refund:
- Totaling $24.30 (food, tax, fees) plus the $5.00 cash tip, for a total of $29.30.
- Compensation for the Walmart+ Failures:
- 25% discount and free Whopper promised but not delivered.
- Replacement Meal:
- A free meal for my grandson and me, delivered on December 7, 2024, so we can attempt to salvage this experience.
- Corporate Accountability:
- Transparency about partnerships like Walmart+ should be mandatory. Customers shouldn’t be blindsided by such arrangements.

’Tis the season. Let me have it my way!
20241207– Update: body of email sent at noon today—
And still no response has been forthcoming? So much for the Burger King promise of Have It Your Way-
This is a sad reflection of what the Burger King company has become since teaming up with Walmart! Mssrs. McLamore, Edgerton, and Walton are all rolling in their graves as the spirit in which their respective companies were founded has completely vanished.
Be well and revel in the fact that such a quick and easy resolution to a life-long patron of your restaurant will now spend the remainder of his journey through life touting the dismal failures of Burger King and its disappointing customer support team and support system. An opportunity to quickly and easily resolve a concern was tossed to the wind.
20241215 – Update – ten days after this situation took place, and nothing but lip service and lies! I received multiple emails, assuring me that a refund was going to be issued and I would get credit back for the Burger King crowns that I spent when my grandson was here and we were planning our final dinner together prior to his departure. I have been told that a refund was sent to my bank. I’ve been told that a refund was sent to my credit union. I’ve been told that I would receive credit on my Burger King card. I was told that the gift card that my grandson used would be reimbursed for the items or were not received. None of these things is true. None of these things has happened.
I would like to begin with the fact that the payment for the meal that we had that evening was made with a combination of Gift Cards and Credit that I had with the restaurant locally! So send it back to my bank or credit union or a fabrication of the most extreme example possible! Why lie to a customer who is patronized your restaurant for well over 20 years about returning the cost of he and his grandson‘s meals to my bank or credit union? Why lie about it?
All I wanted was the food that we ordered we delivered the next day and that was too much to ask for a restaurant who generated revenue in excess of $5.3 billion in 2024. And that’s just in the United States. Canada has generated other $650 million as of November 1. 2025. So an international restaurant the prides themselves on allowing customers to have it their way is bickering with me over less than $30 when they have generated nearly $6 billion in the United States in Canada alone. Looking the statistics available from Burger King international Burger King’s global sales in 2024 have already topped $26 billion. Perhaps the president of Burger King whose reported income for this year is $5.3 million could come out of his pocket for the few dollars I’m asking! Or maybe the CEO who makes about $300,000 a year with additional bonuses of another $148,000 and perks totaling over $69,000 could spare a few bucks and simply refund my money!
The fact that 10 days after the incident took place, I am still bickering with the company over less than $30 should be embarrassing for everybody at Burger King from the top to the bottom! this situation is a sad commentary on the deterioration of customer service and customer satisfaction in the food service arena.
If the front line staff of the company is treated the way the customers are when issues arise, I completely understand why Burger King has the second highest turnover rate in the food service arena! Pretty dismal commentary don’t you think?!?
Somebody from Burger King please reach out to me and resolve this issue before it escalates further. I am sticking to my assertion that I made when that incident occurred, due to the fact the Burger King and his employees managers and Senior level leadership have chosen, not to make good on anything that they did the night of the incident, and destroyed what was supposed to be an enjoyable evening with my grandson prior to his departure and me not being able to see him again until next year, if I am around then due to my health situation.
Come on Burger King International, it’s time for y’all to seriously look at this not Follow boiler plate template emails, stop giving lip service to customer complaints when they escalate to this level. As I said, previously, simply give me my money back or deliver the meal that I orderedfor my grandson and myself. The email that has the link to this update will be included in the email that I send in a few moments.
